How not to rake a big pot at a poker game

Crime doesn’t pay – especially when you’re robbing a home poker game in Winfield. File this under “the dumbest way to rake a pot in the history of poker“.

If you’re planning on robbing a poker game in Winfield, West Virginia, don’t.

It’s probably a safe bet that Jacqueline Dennis had no clue that such a +EV move could land her ass in jail for 25 YEARS. You read right, folks. That’s 9,125 days in the female prison, not counting leap years. Donkdown.

Apparently she thought it was a good idea back in November of 2007 to join an accomplice and rob a group of folks playing a poker game inside a private home. They made away with $27,000 in cash so clearly these guys were just “funning” around. Probably playing $20 Sit n Go tournaments with a little rake going to the house to cover food and drink. Might have been a better idea to take the rake and hire some SECURITY. You think?

So this chick cops a plea deal and agrees to help the prosecution go after the other guy in the case. The deal was to get her only 10 years in return for her cooperation. Apparently the judge wasn’t aware or simply didn’t care because he promptly sent her to prison for 25 years (took a bad beat, obv). Her attorney later commented, “My guess is it was because a gun was involved”.

Holy shit Sherlock, you think so? Remind me to never use this attorney if I ever get nailed for some dumb shit in West Virginia. Wait. Nevermind. There’s no reason on God’s green earth for me to EVER go to West Virginia. Guess I’m good.

With good behavior she’s eligible for parole in about 8 years. So for the next 8 years at least, it’s somewhat safe to play poker in West Virginia. Just make sure it’s not anywhere Winfield.
